University of Muenster establishes the autonomous Institute of Customs and International Trade Law

University of Muenster establishes the autonomous Institute of Customs and International Trade Law

The Department of Customs and Excise at the Institute of Tax Law of the University of Muenster is since 1995 the only university institution in Germany that academically deals with the topic "Customs and international trade law". To step up the work of the department, the university of Muenster has now teamed up with the AWA Foreign Trade Academy and established the autonomous Institute of Customs and International Trade Law.

"There is a widespread opinion that Customs is no longer an issue because of the open EU borders, but that is a very narrow perspective. You have to look at the whole world, not just Germany and its neighbouring countries.", emphasizes Prof. Wolffgang.

The new Institute of Customs and International Trade Law aims to ensure that crucial debates on all aspects of Customs and international trade law are dealt with in research and teaching at national, European and international levels.

The Institute of Customs and International Trade Law also concentrates on establishing a pool of experts. Already under the Department of Customs and Excise there have been collaborations with foreign scholars. This will continue, and no doubt their expertise cannot but benefit research and teaching at the University of Muenster.
